8 Steps to Interior Car Care
e all know that it is important to take care of
the outside of our car. We know that professional car washes protect
our cars from the elements and helps ensure that our cars retain
their value. But, how many of us truly realize the importance of
also taking care of the interior of our cars? If you’re like most,
you probably have neglected the inside of your car. Well, before you
allow this neglect to lower the value of your car, now is the time
to take control and really learn some tips that will improve the
life and value of your car. In
this article, we will discuss some proven tips on caring for your
car’s interior.
- Glove
Compartments. Always remember to clean out your glove
compartment and consoles of excess documents, materials, etc.
For some reason, junk tends to accumulate in these areas.
However, don’t throw away such things as your owner’s
manual, insurance cards, maps, atlases, etc.
- Floor
Mats. When cleaning the interior, always pull out your floor
mats and vacuum them and also vacuum the inside of your car. If
the mats are really dirty you should scrub them with a gentle
cleaner and a really good scrub brush. Unless you purchase
washable mats, you shouldn’t wash them in a washing machine
because they might make the car’s interior wet and that could
become moldy and smelly.
- Vacuuming.
Make sure that you thoroughly vacuum the inside of your car and
also apply some carpet freshener.
- Spots
on Carpet. If you notice a spot on your carpet, you can spot
clean it with a gentle cleaner like Resolve. You might also be
able to use a steam cleaner to get to those stubborn stains. If
you use a steam cleaner try and choose the one with attachments
so that you can get those hard to reach places.
- Windows
and Windshield. Use a gentle glass cleaner, preferably
alcohol based, like Windex, to thoroughly clean all of your
windows including your windshield. You can then use paper towel
or newspaper to dry it.
- Dashboards.
To clean your dashboard, use a little bit of furniture polish.
This will ensure that you clean the surface but will ensure that
you don’t leave a funny looking glossy shine. If you decide to
apply special vinyl protectants, make sure that you use and
follow manufacturer’s instructions.
- Cleaning
Spots. If you find some spots on your cloth interior, you
can use a special cloth cleaner to clean up the spot. However if
you’re working on a budge, you can also use 2/3 cup of water
and 1/3 cup of white household vinegar. To use this method, you
have to blot the spot and then let it dry. The only problem
though is that then your car will smell like vinegar.
- Air
Freshener. Last but not least, don’t forget the air
freshener. You can purchase hanging air fresheners at your local
auto supply store. Make sure that you choose a pleasant but not
overwhelming scent.
Most people concentrate on the exterior of
their car, but while cleaning the interior of your car may not seem
that important, keep in mind that a fresh interior will not only add
to the resale value of your car, but may very well impress your date
on Friday night!
